摘 要： 《京华烟云》是林语堂上世纪30年代末的力作，堪称中国上个世纪30年代的“红楼”，是开放在中国现代长篇小说园地中的一朵奇葩。在这部洋洋洒洒七十余万字的巨著中，林语堂给我们描述了京城曾、姚、牛三大望族从庚子年义和团之乱到抗日战争全面爆发期间的悲欢离合、恩怨情仇和兴衰沉浮，驾驭了中国近70年的历史风云，塑造了有名有姓的人物达九十多个，小说内容博大精深，芸芸众生，无不包揽，堪称一部近现代中国的百科全书。而这样浩繁的内容，无论人物刻画，还是情节结构，林语堂都是以一种洒脱和谐、自然平淡的艺术形式加以真实的表现，给人以隽永、优雅、含蓄的魅力，让人百看不厌。《京华烟云》中渗透着的浓厚的哲学意蕴则是作者独特的人生哲学的深层表现。《京华烟云》既有道家超凡脱俗，淡泊人生的理想；又有儒家忧国忧民，兼济天下的责任感；还有佛家众生平等、提倡舍身的出世精神。这三种思想分别体现在姚木兰、姚思安、曾文璞、曼娘、牛素云等人物的身上，使作品充满独特的哲学意蕴和审美价值。

Abstract: Moments in Peking written by Lin Yutang at the end of 1930s, is broadly considered as the Dream of Red Mansion in China of the 1930's, a fantastic flower in the garden of China's modern novel. In this masterpiece containing more than 700,000 characters, Lin Yutang describes the sorrows and happiness, risings and downs of the three big families, Zeng, Yao, and Niu, from the resistance of Yi He Tuan in the year of Gengzi to the period of the extensive outbreak of China’s War of resistance to Japan. The great work, crossing about seventy years of China’s history, creates more than ninety characters with their own names, and its content, as being broad and profound, can be called an encyclopedia of China’s modern history. Despite such an extensive content, no matter in terms of the description of characters, or from the perspective of plots and structures, Lin Yutang writes via a natural and simple artistic style, and such a real representation gives the work a kind of charm which make people will never be bored even after reading it many times. Moments in Peking, from which a conspicuous philosophical meaning is showed, is actually the presentation of the author’s unique thinking about life and people. The book not only describes the Taoist ideal of surpassing earthly life and being simple and natural,but also refers to the Confucius teachings of a sense of responsibility for one’s own country as well as the Buddhist spirit of “people are born equal” and self-sacrifice. These three spirits are represented respectively in characters, such as Yao Mulan, Yao Sian, Zeng Wrnpu, Man Niang, Niu Suyun,etc. which give the masterpiece unique philosophical meaning and artistic value.

长篇小说《京华烟云》是林语堂创作于20世纪30年代的杰作，也可以说是他小说的代表作之一。这部小说感情真切自然，品格优雅含蓄，集中体现了林语堂小说艺术的精粹。然而，《京华烟云》的最主要特色还应是凝聚在字里行间的林语堂的哲学、林语堂的灵魂。正如林语堂的女公子林如斯说：“此书的最大优点不在性格描写得生动，不在风景形容得宛然如在目前，不在心理描绘的巧妙，而在其哲学意义”。 [1]（P.１）而这些丰富的哲学内涵主要是通过各形各色的人物形象体现出来的。小说中的哲学意蕴体现为道儒佛三种哲学倾向，本文就主要从这三种倾向在人物身上的表现来谈谈笔者的浅见。
