| None can avoid death, therefore, death is significant to life, so is the rite of death----funeral. Funeral is the most special ceremonial of one’s life, because the protagonist has not been alive. In modern society, the funeral becomes easier; however, it still keeps traditional customs, especially in the rural areas. The funeral still plays an important role in living people’s life. In 1999, I took part in my great-grandmother’s funeral in the countryside in my hometown. It was a traditional funeral in the northeast of China. Through that funeral I knew a part of people’s attitude to death, dead people and the underworld. |
