[Abstract] In order for test takers to have the opportunity to perform at their best, it is essential that they be provided with clear instructions. This thesis will discuss ways in which instructions can be most effectively specified to promote the best test performance in a given group of test takers, and will also discuss the general principles and the essential components of instructions, along with suggestions on how these can be effectively written and presented to test takers.
