Over recent years, there has a great increase in the market of wireless communication. Wireless technology has become more and more popular. It now can be found everywhere and Hundreds of millions of people exchange information everyday using wireless equipments. The wireless technology is so successful that even in the realm of personal and business computing people also can use it. With the IEEE's proposed standard for wireless LANs (IEEE 802.11), more and more wireless LAN applications are used in every field; include education, medical and business. No longer limited by the wires, people will be able to communicate and exchange information anywhere. This essay will introduce the wireless LANs and IEEE 802.11, analysis the threats of wireless LANs and IEEE 802.11 and prospect the wireless LANs future.
