For the possible future improved drug delivery system, hydrogel is one of the attractive materials that could be used in the biomedical applications. This report details what is hydrogel, swelling behaviour, testing protocol of the drug delivery. Introduction: Over the past centuries, various methods were used to delivery drugs in to the human body. However, each method had their drawbacks. More often than so, it was difficult to maintain the drug concentration within the desired therapeutic range using conventional drug delivery methods. Furthermore, the drug is not always delivered to the target site and often results in harmful side effects elsewhere, within the body. In the recent years leading to the present, controlled and sustained drug delivery has become a standard in modern pharmaceutical designs. Advance research in the field lead to better drug product effectiveness, reliability and safety. Which finally lead to the use of biocompatible polymers known as hydrogels. |
