Introduction Tess of the d'Urbervilles, written by Thomas Hardy in the late of 19th century, is a famous classical book in the world. In this novel, Hardy demonstrates his deep sense of moral sympathy for England's lower classes, particularly for women. In this book, he portrays a young woman victimized by the self-righteous rigidity of English social morality. Many people can hardly accept that this woman is pure because on the hand she is chastily but on the other hand she kills somebody.
