1.1 The Unique Characteristic of Legal English
The language of legal English is a kind of customary language, which includes some words, phrases and mode of expressions with its unique style. One of the most important characteristics of legal English is exact in its usage. The exact expression in legal English is closely related to the feature of legal work. What legislative language presents is the rules of all citizens and the basis for enforcing law, so that legislators must formulate the country’s legislative thoughts and concrete legal content through the exact usage of words and phrases. In this case, judicatory staff and citizens can clearly understand what rights and obligations they are supposed to have as a citizen of the country, they can better understand what behavior is permitted or banned and what behavior is encouraged or punished. They also can know what responsibilities they are supposed to have when they break the law.
