In a broad sense, culture is the productivity and the total of material and spiritual wealth that were created in the practice of human society. In a narrow sense, culture is the spiritual productivity and products, including social ideology, natural science, and technological science. Culture is the totality of socially transmitted behavior patterns, arts, beliefs, institutions, and all other products of human work and thought. These patterns, traits, and products are considered as the expression of a particular period, class, community, or population. Culture is a historical phenomenon.Any society has its own culture. As a vehicle of culture, language reflects the specific social culture. Culture in different nations and regions is diversified. This cultural difference causes difficulty in translation. However translation is a way of communication, through which we know about foreign culture and foreign custom and enrich culture and the way of expression of target language. So translators need to overcome cultural barrier and avoid culture shock so as to realize the aim of cultural communication. Mr. Lin Yutang said: “We appreciate articles by learning Chinese-English culture.”(杨建华, 2001 ). Actually it is a truth. Translation plays a great part in mastering the two languages, striding across the two nations and linking up the two cultures.
