Satan is the central figure of Paradise Lost. This dissertation makes a re-analysis of his image. It consists of three parts. The first part presents Satan’s ambivalent personality through the text study. The second part looks into Milton’s personal experiences and belief to dig out the root of such paradox. The third part further examines the complexity of Satan in relation to the potential readers’ recognition. Through the above analysis, it is proved that Satan is a multi-dimensional tragic villain hero.

撒旦一直是《失乐园》中的焦点人物。本文在此将再次探讨他的形象。文章首先从文本分析入手，发现撒旦的性格充满矛盾。然后又考察弥尔顿的生平和信仰对创作撒旦形象的影响。继而探寻读者与作品的互动关系，借以揭示撒旦复杂性格的又一成因。最后得出结论：撒旦是一个充满悲剧色彩的恶棍英雄。
