By presenting our versions of marriage relations in Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen fully demonstrates the dilemma of marriage---conflicting but complementary relationship between the two elements, love and money. In this novel, Austen’s philosophical view of marriage is visible. In choosing a partner, character serves as the deciding point, while in making a good and lasting marriage, not one of three factors, love, money and responsibility, can be missing.
