Mark Twain is an outstanding representative of American realism in the nineteenth century. In this paper, the conflicts between ideals and reality in his novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, are analyzed in order to get proper understanding of its realistic subject matter. The conflicts are embodied in four aspects: racial relationship, education, belief and the difference of adults and children. Through the description of the conflicts, the novel achieves its realistic effect as expected.
