【Abstract】: Advertising is a means to promote the sales of goods or services. A successful advertisement should rely on consumers’ attention and use various means to enhance the artistic appeal and pleasantness of language. Advertising English uses lots of figures of speech to make the language clear, distinctive and memorable. However, the most widely used are ellipsis and repetition. They seem contradictory but, in fact, the purpose of using them is the same. It is to make advertising more persuasive and to encourage the public to buy.
